About Us
National Oilwell Varco and Schlumberger are equal partners in organizing the Derricks & Diamonds Charity Softball Tournament. A Steering Committee comprised of National Oilwell Varco and Schlumberger executives overseas the event organization and planning throughout the year.
In 2004, under the direction of National Oilwell Varco's Senior Vice President Jerry Gauche, NOV's Next Generation Initiative employees were tasked with creating a philanthropic event. The group created what has become known as Derricks & Diamonds.
A softball tournament allowed for more participants as well as a variety of other Oil and Gas businesses to participate as donors. The additional source of funds led to choosing Texas Children's Hospital as a primary beneficiary because of their miracle work with the three-year-old brother of one of the planners of the tournament. The tournament was named Derricks & Diamonds and in the spring of 2005, a handful of companies met for a one day event that raised almost $13,000 for Texas Children's Hospital's Charity Care Program.
Impressed with the event and its concept, Schlumberger organized an event of its own, being able to raise $44,000 for Texas Children's Cancer Center. However, in 2006, the foundation was laid for what has been a successful and engaging endeavor between National Oilwell Varco and Schlumberger. Both companies joined forces for a single charity tournament.
Since then, the number of participating companies, teams, extra events and dollars raised has continued to grow exponentially. Snowdrop Foundation was brought on board in 2007 as beneficiary of the raffle and silent auction.
